Green Log Briquettes

Rapeseed ?
A local crop grown here in the UK, compared to palm and soya oils used for mass produced bio-fuels, which have to be transported around the globe.

What are they made from ?
100% rapemeal. Rapemeal is the solid co-product left over after the rapeseed is crushed to express the rapeseed oil.

Do they contain any additives ?
They are 100% rapemeal. A small amount of the oil in the rapemeal is left to act as the binding agent. This is what gives the briquettes their polished appearance.

What can you burn them on ?
They can be burnt on any solid fuel burning appliance. This includes open fires, wood burning and multi-fuel stoves.

How long do they burn for ?
A single 1.25 kg Green Log Briquette will burn for up to 1.5 hours, the equivalent of 3 kiln-dried logs. This longer burn time means that you’ll have to tend to your fire less often!

Do they smell ?
Green Log Briquettes burn with a very slight, uniquely ‘nutty’ odour. However most customers cannot smell anything when they burn the briquettes.

Do they burn with a flame ?
Green Log Briquettes burn with a flame just as a fire with logs or coal would.

Will they soot up my chimney ?
Green Log Briquettes will not soot up your chimney. Soot forms when damp wood doesn’t burn properly. Un-burnt fibrous material then travels up your chimney with the flue gas and sticks to the walls of the chimney. Green Log Briquettes are made up of seed husks, containing very little fibrous material and so do not produce soot.

How much heat do they give out ?
The energy content of Green Log briquettes has been measured as 22-24 MJ/kg. This puts them between wood ( 10-15 MJ/kg ) and low-grade coal ( 26 MJ/kg ) and means that you need to put much less than wood on the fire to get the same heat out.

Can I store them outside ?
Green Log Briquettes need to be stored in a dry place, such as a garage or shed. They will expand and fall apart if they get wet. Fortunately, because they are so compact and full of energy, you will need much less space than a conventional log store!

How much ash do they produce ?
The ash content of our Green Log briquettes is approximately 5% by weight. This means that each briquette will produce roughly the same amount of ash that the equivalent number of logs would produce. This ash is a fine white powder that also makes a great fertiliser.
